Washington D.C. — with best friends, during a heatwave, by bike & by foot. Bring water…and a camera.
Day 1: A sights-n-sounds city tour (by bike)
* I loved getting a peek of the White House vegetable garden (below). <smile>
Day Two: A Three-Stop Tour of National Museums (by foot)
National Museum of the American Indian:
“This is an awesome place to grab lunch!” says J (and she’s SO right!)
Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum:
And – always a fan favorite…
The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History:
SO many things to see in this amazing space…
I’d have to say that my favorite was the photo exhibit. Can’t think of the last time I was surrounded by such color and vibrant detail…
So – while the media seems to paint an image that all roads in Washington look a bit like this (hopelessly-broken and politically-toxic) :
It was nice to see things from a different angle. <smile>
{The photo above is a portion of the AIDS Memorial Quilt, currently on display at the National Mall. The AIDS quilt is the largest community folk art project in the world; spanning over 50 miles, it includes the names of over 94,000 people who have lost their lives to AIDS. Click here for more info on the NAMES Project and here for a remarkable application that allows you to view the entire quilt, patch-by-patch}
A weekend in WA D.C. – can’t recommend it enough.
Would love to see that animal photography exhibit!
